{"id":320,"date":"2015-05-12T16:07:50","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T20:07:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abfifer.com\/blog\/?p=320"},"modified":"2021-04-19T16:01:06","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T20:01:06","slug":"mediation-to-address-church-bell-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/abfifer.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/mediation-to-address-church-bell-dispute\/","title":{"rendered":"Mediation to Address Church Bell Dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Neighbors of a church in Burlington, Vermont, have <a href=\"http:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/dynamic\/stories\/U\/US_CHURCH_BELL_BATTLE?SITE=AP&amp;SECTION=HOME&amp;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT\">agreed to go to mediation<\/a> with representatives from Christ the King Catholic Church over the issue of the church\u2019s bells. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The neighbors complained to the City about the church bells, wondering whether the ringing violated the City\u2019s noise ordinance. The Assistant City Attorney, Gregg Meyer, is quoted as saying that the City would rather have the two sides work this out in mediation. Mediation originally scheduled for March is now set for May 18<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">This story has a familiar \u201cring\u201d to it: I wrote recently about <a href=\"http:\/\/abfifer.com\/blog\/2015\/02\/ring-those-bells\/\">another dispute<\/a> between a neighbor and a church regarding the church\u2019s bells. The unhappy neighbor there had actually filed a lawsuit. No word on how that case was resolved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Mediation is the perfect place for this type of dispute to be resolved. Determining whether the bells violate the city\u2019s noise ordinance would leave one side or the other very unhappy.
