{"id":493,"date":"2017-11-01T19:46:04","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T23:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abfifer.com\/blog\/?p=493"},"modified":"2021-04-19T16:01:05","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T20:01:05","slug":"a-pretty-good-public-apology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abfifer.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/a-pretty-good-public-apology\/","title":{"rendered":"A Pretty Good Public Apology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As \u201cthe Weinstein effect\u201d continues, a top official at National Public Radio <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2017\/11\/01\/561363158\/nprs-head-of-news-resigns-following-harassment-allegations\">resigned today <\/a>amid allegations of sexual harassment.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2017\/11\/01\/561363158\/nprs-head-of-news-resigns-following-harassment-allegations\">apology from NPR senior vice president of news Michael Oreske<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am deeply sorry to the people I hurt. My behavior was wrong and inexcusable, and I accept full responsibility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One measure of a good apology is whether it meets the \u201cfour R\u2019s:\u201d Regret, Responsibility, Restitution, Refrain from the behavior in the future. This apology does a good job of addressing the first two \u201cR\u2019s,\u201d Regret and Responsibility. He doesn\u2019t mention how he plans to make it up to the victims of his harassment (\u201cRestitution\u201d), nor how he plans to avoid such behavior in the future (\u201cRefrain\u201d).
